Sealant Systems are proud to have worked on some major projects including Williams F1 Engineering and the Millennium Stadium

Case Study – Williams F1 Engineering

This project involved the construction of a new build purpose built extension attached to the Williams F1 Engineering building in Wantage, Oxfordshire.
The new extension to the Williams F1 Engineering Building consisted of glass panels covering two floors. The panels required around 1000m of mastic to applied in between each panel in order to seal the 22mm thick glass to glass front butt joints.

Application Process

After installation of the glass panels to the building, there was a 22mm butt joint glass to glass,. The foaming backing system in place to create a 12mm depth of joint for the sealant to be applied to.

All substrates to be sealed with silicone sealant was sufficiently cleaned before any mastic work could be carried out. Once clean, the 996 LM black was used to seal the joint detail previously described, with special care being taken to ensure that the sealant was correctly tooled smoothly in against the adjacent glass edges to ensure maximum adhesion would be achieved between the substrates.

Case Study – The Millennium Stadium, Cardiff

After 15 years the Millennium Stadium was suffering deterioration to its concrete terracing. Water was leaking through due to expansion joints failing. The task in hand was to cut out and reseal the expansion joints on all three tiers of the stadium plus other areas as required.

Sealant Systems carried out the work on this major project.  As it was such a huge job it had to be split in phases to accommodate major events at the stadium.

Application Process

Phase 1 is now completed with all passageways and step areas being cut out and resealed on the top tier (stadium level 6), approximately 2,000m.

Phase 2 was the cut out and reseal of approximately 3,500 of the original vertical stadium expansion joints, varying from 30-50mm wide, as well as some 20-25mm fillet joints on the steps. This has now been fully completed, so the whole of the top tier (stadium level 6) has now been cut out and resealed.

Phase 3 is due to start in June, which will be the cut out and reseal of the middle tier (stadium levels 3 and 4), plus possible cut out and reseal of concourse floor to wall joints.

Phase 4 will be the cut out and reseal of the lower tier (stadium levels 1 and 2)
